China bans livestock product imports from East and Central Africa over disease fears

New Continental Pastoral Markets Development Platform Launched

COMESA has reaffirmed its support to the growth of pastoral markets by being part of the newly launched African Pastoral Markets Development (APMD) Platform. Launched by the African Union Inter-African Bureau for Animal Resources (AU-IBAR) on 17 January 2025 in Nairobi, Kenya, the Platform aims to enhance the livelihoods of pastoral communities particularly in the Horn of Africa and the Sahel regions by addressing systemic challenges in livestock trade. Paving Prosperity – Roads Project Drives Zambia’s Farm-to-Market Compact

The Zambia Farm-to-Market Compact aims to address key constraints within the country’s agriculture and agro-processing sectors. The compact includes four projects, including the Roads and Access Project with a budget of US$315 million. As MCC’s CEO Alice Albright stated, “This compact makes it easier for Zambia’s farmers and agriculture processors to sell their products and grow their businesses, an output critical to Zambia’s economic growth. Agriculture Ministry Lifts Ban on Livestock Movements in Rukungiri District, Uganda

The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) of the Republic of Uganda has lifted the quarantine on the movement and sale of livestock and livestock products in Rukungiri District after declaring that foot-and-mouth disease in the area is under control. Business-to-business workshops promote technology uptake among agripreneurs in Tanzania

Rwanda’s Eastern Cattle Farmers Demand Urgent Action to Combat Tsetse Fly Threat
